Dr. Zuhra Abawi is an Associate Professor in the Critical Policy, Equity and Leadership Studies ARC. She is a scholar, activist and practitioner. Her research draws on antiracism, anti-colonialism and discourses of state development to frame refugee access to education in host countries along Global North/South geographies. She is particularly interested in the politics of deservingness in determining access to education as an epistemic good of the state and how hegemonic power relations informed by whiteness undergird constructions and categorizations of humanity. 

Assistant Professor Mohamed A. M. Abdelrazek, Department of Medical Imaging, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, focuses his research on cardiothoracic imaging, thoracic biopsy, interstitial lung disease, cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging, and aortic valvular disease assessment. His work links thoracic and cardiac imaging with clinically useful diagnosis and image-guided investigation in complex chest disease. His research mission is to improve precision in cardiothoracic diagnosis through advanced imaging and procedure-based scholarship. Previously trained at Cairo University and the University of Ottawa, he also contributes to academic radiology teaching at Western University.  

Hamid Abdolvand is a Tier-2 Canada Research Chair in Advanced Materials for Low-Emission Energies. He is a faculty member of Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department. His research focuses on deformation and failure mechanisms of engineering materials across length and time scales. Before joining Western Engineering, he was a postdoc researcher at the University of Oxford where he spent three years working on electron and synchrotron x-ray diffraction analysis of engineering materials. Prior to Oxford, he worked at the University of Manchester, developing finite element codes for Rolls-Royce Plc and AMEC-Europe.

Hamid Abdolvand received his PhD in 2012 from Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada. During his PhD, he developed a series of finite element codes for modelling deformation of polycrystalline materials such as zirconium.

Assistant Professor Mustafa Abdul Karim serves within the Department of Psychiatry at Western University. His research focuses on clinical outcomes in mental health, specifically examining mood disorders and psychiatric interventions. He prioritizes patient-centered care through the integration of evidence-based medicine and clinical psychiatry. His mission is to improve long-term recovery metrics for individuals facing acute mental health crises. He actively engages in the clinical supervision of residents and medical students within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Previously, he completed his Doctor of Medicine and specialized training in adult psychiatry.

Assistant Professor Rasha Abdul-Karim is a faculty member in the Department of Medicine at Western University. Her primary research involves internal medicine and chronic disease management, where she explores longitudinal patient outcomes. She utilizes specialized knowledge in clinical diagnostics and therapeutic protocols to enhance community health standards. Her mission centers on optimizing diagnostic accuracy to prevent the progression of complex systemic illnesses. In her academic role, she provides essential clinical supervision to trainees at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. She holds a Doctor of Medicine and is dedicated to advancing medical education.

Dr. Rosanne Abdulla is an Assistant Professor joint in the Faculty of Education and the Department of French Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Within this joint appointment, she will be working to increase collaboration between French, Education, and the London community. She is an Ontario Certified Teacher with teachable subjects in Intermediate/Senior FSL and English, as well as a PhD in French Studies. Prior to joining Western University, Dr. Abdulla taught French language/culture courses at the University of Alabama, University of Waterloo, and Conestoga College. 

Her research interests include 21^st century French literature, the representation of mental health in literature, psychoanalytical criticism, psychology and literature, foreign language acquisition, FSL teaching and learning, online/blended learning, inclusive pedagogies, and diversity/decolonization in the classroom.

At Western, she teaches FSL pedagogy courses in our B.Ed program, and undergraduate French language/culture courses on main campus. She is the faculty liaison for the newly revamped Centre d’aide en français, and a member of the Administrative Council of the Conseil communautaire francophone de London. She will also be developing new pathways for non-French majors to acquire French proficiency in support of the important need for FSL teachers in Ontario.

Dr. Sheikh S. Abdullah is an adjunct scientist at ICES Western, an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at MacEwan University, and an adjunct assistant Professor at Western University. He is a machine learning and biostatistics researcher whose work bridges computer science, clinical epidemiology, and pharmacoepidemiology. His research program develops predictive models and visual analytics frameworks to tackle critical challenges in chronic diseases, drug safety, and other complex health conditions. He also advances high-throughput computing pipelines and federated analytics frameworks to securely process multi-jurisdictional health data, ensuring both efficiency and privacy. By leveraging large-scale administrative and clinical datasets from ICES and Alberta Health Services, Dr. Abdullah designs scalable, reproducible tools for risk stratification and causal inference. His work aims to identify high-risk patients earlier, improve prescribing safety, and enable data-driven decision-making to inform clinical practice and health policy.

Dr. Farah Abdulsatar completed her medical education at the University of British Columbia followed by residency in Paediatrics at Western University. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. She is also board-certified by the American Board of Paediatrics in General Paediatrics. She has a special interest in acquired brain injury and neurorehabilitation in the paediatric population. 

Assistant Professor Joy Shira S Abramson is a dedicated researcher in the Department of Psychiatry at Western University. Her work emphasizes child and adolescent psychiatry, focusing on developmental disorders and early intervention strategies. She integrates behavioral therapy and neurodevelopmental assessments to support younger populations. Her research mission is to develop accessible mental health frameworks that address the unique needs of children in clinical settings. She supervises psychiatric residents, fostering a deep understanding of pediatric mental health challenges. Previously, she earned her medical degree and specialized in developmental psychiatry.

Dr. Basim Abu Rafea, MD FRCSC FACOG is the current Division Head of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (GREI) and, an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Western University – Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry and the Medical Director of The Fertility Clinic at London Health Sciences Centre, Victoria Hospital.

He completed his medical degree at King Saud University (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Western University, where he also pursued a subspecialty training in both Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility and Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery.

Before returning to Canada in 2013, Dr. Abu Rafea held multiple leadership roles in Saudi Arabia, including Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at King Saud University, Director of the Assisted Conception Unit, and Chair of the Clinical Ethics Committee at King Khalid University Hospital. He also established Saudi Arabia’s first clinics dedicated to abnormal uterine bleeding and chronic pelvic pain.

Dr. Abu Rafea is an accomplished clinical researcher with more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, two book chapters, and numerous national and international awards. His research focuses on embryo development and selection, single embryo transfer, minimally invasive surgery, and innovative approaches to abnormal uterine bleeding. He has developed several clinical databases that continue to inform and advance gynecologic practice.

Assistant Professor Fabio A. Accorsi, Department of Medical Imaging, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, is a radiologist at University Hospital. His work encompasses diagnostic radiology, medical imaging, cross-sectional imaging, academic imaging practice, and radiology education. His mission within Western University is to support research-informed imaging and specialist training in a rapidly evolving clinical field. 

Professor Scott Adams received his PhD in Communication Disorders (Speech Science) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1990 and was supervised by Raymond Kent and Gary Weismer. He did his BSc in Physiology & Psychology at Western University and his MHSc in Speech Pathology at the University of Toronto. Professor Adams has been at Western University since 1994. He was tenured in 1998 and promoted to Full Professor in 2010.

I am a sociologist who specializes in the sociology of work, occupations and professions. Within this broad area, I have two primary areas of research. The first focuses on the regulation of professions in the past and present in Canada and in comparative contexts. Second explores the changing nature of professional work, with a focus on social inequalities by gender in intersection with class, race, age, and other dimensions of inequality.

Professor Janusz A. Adamus, Department of Mathematics, Western University, leads research in local analytic geometry, singularities, local algebra, semialgebraic and subanalytic geometry, and computational algebra. His work examines the local geometry of real and complex analytic mappings and the algebraic and differential properties of subanalytic sets, with links to commutative algebra and discrete mathematics. His research mission is to connect geometric, algebraic, topological, and effective computational methods to better understand regularity and mapping behaviour. He supervises graduate researchers and previously earned his doctorate from the University of Toronto.  

Assistant Professor Adedoyin Ade-Dosumu is a researcher within the Department of Psychiatry at Western University. Her research explores community psychiatry and mental health equity, focusing on how social determinants impact patient recovery. She specializes in geriatric psychiatry and psychopharmacology to address the needs of aging populations. Her mission involves creating inclusive psychiatric care models that bridge the gap between clinical practice and community support. She supervises graduate students and residents, emphasizing the importance of sociocultural context in psychiatric treatment. She is currently available for consultation regarding collaborative mental health initiatives.

Born in Ijebu Igbo, a town in Southwestern Nigeria, Sakiru moved to Ibadan to study at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier university. He later moved to Johannesburg, South Africa for his Ph.D. at the University of the Witwatersrand. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Wits Institute of Social and Economic Research (WISER) for a year. 

I locate my research within a growing body of scholarship in critical classification studies, which intersects with critical data, infrastructure, and library and archival studies. I am an interdisciplinary scholar working across the fields of library and information science, gender and sexuality studies, literary studies, and American studies. I grapple with the tensions between standardization and local control, institutionalization and personal experience, universals and particulars, and the various kinds of knowledges and relations of power in libraries and archives. 

My book Peculiar Satisfaction: Thomas Jefferson and the Mastery of Subjects was published Fordham University Press in December 2025. It examines Jefferson's role in the formation of American libraries, archives, and museums and the complexities and contradictions inherent to access to information. Surveillance in an Empire of Liberty: Why Thomas Jefferson Matters in Our Information Age was released by Bloomsbury in February 2026. That book is a set of studies that situates Jefferson's plantation, factory, and public offices as grounds for developing information and labour management practices based on an emerging prison reform movement, his vision for the young republic, and prevailing discourses about laws of nature and nations. Perhaps the most overlooked but very important legacy of Jefferson’s career is his role in the convergence of capital, state power, and racialization in what I regard as early information communication technologies, data science, and library and archival methods. I held short-term fellowships at the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies in the summers of 2018 and 2022.

My first book, Cruising the Library: Perversities in the Organization of Knowledge (Fordham University Press, 2017), examines the history of sexuality through the lens of Library of Congress classifications. It has been reviewed in The Times Literary Supplement, Los Angeles Review of Books, American Archivist, and other publications.

With funding from the Social Science & Humanities Council, I have formed a collective project with library, archives, museum, and media workers and students. Useful + Beautiful is designed to think expansively about knowledge organization.

Assistant Professor Nikesh R Adunuri is a faculty member in the Department of Medicine at Western University. His research focuses on cardiology and cardiovascular health, specifically examining non-invasive imaging and heart failure management. He utilizes advanced diagnostic tools to identify early markers of cardiac dysfunction. His research mission is to reduce the incidence of sudden cardiac events through improved screening and preventative care. He provides clinical teaching and supervision for medical trainees at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. He completed his medical degree and fellowship in cardiovascular medicine prior to joining Western.

Assistant Professor Tamoor Afzaal serves in the Department of Medicine at Western University. His research explores gastroenterology and hepatology, with a specific focus on inflammatory bowel disease and liver dysfunction. He investigates the efficacy of novel biological therapies in treating chronic digestive disorders. His mission is to improve patient quality of life by developing personalized treatment plans for complex gastrointestinal conditions. He actively supervises residents during clinical rotations, sharing his expertise in internal medicine. Previously, he earned his Doctor of Medicine and specialized in digestive health and endoscopic procedures.

Ankush Agarwal is an Associate Professor at the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences, University of Western Ontario, Canada. His main fields of research are applied probability, mathematical finance, actuarial mathematics and data science. He specializes in developing stochastic models and numerical techniques for derivatives trading, and uncertainty modelling for risk management in the context of operations research and pension funds.

As an internationally renowned neuro-otologist, Dr. Agrawal joined Western University in 2008 after completing his fellowship in Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery at Stanford University. 

Dr. Agrawal is a surgical innovator, developing the minimally invasive middle fossa implant technique and performing the first BONEBRIDGE implant in North America. Together with his division partners, Drs. Lorne Parnes and Demir Bajin, the Otology team has achieved many significant accomplishments, including  the first BCI 602 implant in Canada, the first paediatric robotic cochlear implant in North America, and the first paediatric auditory brainstem implant in Canada.

Dr. Agrawal is a Professor, Surgeon-Scientist, and the inaugural Research Chair in Neurotology and Translational Hearing Innovation. Along with Dr. Hanif Ladak, he is the co-director of the Auditory Biophysics Laboratory (ABL), which has gained international recognition for pioneering work in synchrotron imaging, artificial intelligence and patient-specific cochlear implant programming.

Dr. Belal Ahmad is an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at Western University.  He graduated with a Bachelors in Human Biology with high distinction from the University of Toronto, prior to enrolling at Queen’s University Medical School, where he graduated with his MD in 2002.  He pursued his residency in Radiation Oncology at McMaster University, graduating in 2007, and did a one year fellowship at Western University studying Image Guided Radiotherapy, finishing in 2008.  He joined the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre as a full time staff physician in July 2008.

His clinical and research interests center on genitourinary malignancies, gastrointestinal malignancies, skin cancer, and palliative radiotherapy.  Dr. Ahmad has a strong interest in education, and is currently the co-director of undergraduate oncology at the Schulich School of Medicine.  He is also a specialty examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as well as an examiner for the Medical Council of Canada.
