Associate Professor Cory Yamashita, Department of Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, leads research on antimicrobial peptides, pulmonary surfactant, mechanisms of acute lung injury and multiple organ failure, and severe asthma. His work examines how lung injury develops and how innate protective systems in the respiratory tract can be leveraged to improve outcomes in serious pulmonary disease. His research mission is to connect mechanistic respiratory science with better care for patients with asthma and acute lung injury. He also serves as Division Chair in Respirology and is recognized for both research and undergraduate medical teaching.
