BIO

Associate Professor James Purkis, Department of English and Writing Studies, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Western University, researches early modern manuscript drama, textual studies, theatre history, authorship, collaboration, and the changing Shakespeare canon. His research mission is to show how manuscript evidence, performance history, and theories of authorship reshape understanding of Shakespeare and related dramatic writing. Purkis is a leading scholar of dramatic manuscripts, and his book Shakespeare and Manuscript Drama was shortlisted for the Shakespeare’s Globe Book Award. He also teaches and supervises advanced work in Renaissance and early modern drama at Western University.
