Dr. R. Greg Thorn is a Professor and Associate Chair (Undergraduate) of Biology at Western University and Curator, University of Western Ontario Herbarium. He also teaches various third year biology courses in Western University, specifically entailing fungi and plants. 

During his undergrad in landscape architecture at the University of Guelph, he became very interested in fungi while working as a summer naturalist in Algonquin Park. He met George Barron, the author of "Mushrooms of Ontario and Eastern Canada", who hired him to take photographs for his book. Dr. Thorn then began collecting, identifying and culturing many different species of fungi. Soon after beginning his graduate studies, he published in Science. Then he completed an MSc at University of Guelph and then his PhD at University of Toronto.
