Professor Andrew Hrymak Hrymak holds a BEng degree from McMaster University and a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University.

His principal areas of specialization are polymer and materials processing, computational fluid dynamics, and process design and simulation.

Recruited from McMaster where he was a Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering as well as graduate program director of the Walter G. Booth School of Engineering Practice and Director of the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute, Hrymak started as Dean of Western Engineering on July 1, 2009. 

He served as one of Western University’s longest-serving deans, and under his near decade-long leadership, Western Engineering saw an increase in undergraduate and graduate enrolment, industry partnerships, alumni activities and outreach initiatives. He has also overseen the building of the Amit Chakma Engineering Building, a landmark new building, as well as the WindEEE Dome at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Park. Hrymak also played a key leadership role in securing a long-term research collaboration between Western and the Fraunhofer Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) in the area composite technologies. This joint venture, the Fraunhofer Project Centre for Composites Research @ Western, represents the first comprehensive initiative between a Canadian university and Fraunhofer institute.

Dr. Hrymak was named Western University's Provost & Vice-President (Academic) for 2018-2020.  He also served as Special Advisor to the President (Industry Partnerships, the Green Economy, and Sustainability for Western University.In 2021-2023, 

He is currently Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering and Director of the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Composites Research at Western University. Hrymak has served as Associate Editor of Computers and Chemical Engineering, Editor-in-Chief of International Polymer Processing, President of the International Society of Coating Science and Technology (ISCST), and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Chemical Institute of Canada.
