Professor Gregory Kopp is situated in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Western University. His research specializes in severe storms engineering, wind loads, and disaster mitigation, with a primary focus on damage prevention during tornadoes and hurricanes. He serves as Director of the Canadian Severe Storms Laboratory (CSSL), which he founded in 2024, building on the successes of the Northern Tornadoes Project and Northern Hail Project. He is the ImpactWX Chair in Severe Storms Engineering. He is active in translating research findings into society by serving on a wide range of building codes and standards committees, including as Chair of ASCE 49 Standard "Wind Tunnel Testing for Buildings and Other Structures". Holding a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Toronto, he teaches in the areas of wind engineering, building aerodynamics, and climate resilience. He supervises graduate students in all areas of his research interests.
