Ileana Paul is Professor of Linguistics at Western University, where she also serves as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. She received her PhD in Linguistics from McGill University and held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research lies at the intersection of syntax and semantics, with a focus on cross‑linguistic variation, particularly in Austronesian languages such as Malagasy and Tagalog. Her work addresses topics including argument structure, determination, aspect and modality, restructuring, and microvariation, and has been supported by multiple SSHRC grants. She has published extensively in leading journals and edited several volumes on Austronesian and theoretical linguistics. In addition to her research, she has held numerous academic leadership roles and is deeply engaged in graduate supervision and international scholarly collaboration.
