Professor A. Kim Clark is in the Department of Anthropology and affiliated with Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at Western University. A political anthropologist and historical anthropologist, she researches nation and state formation, political anthropology, historical anthropology, gendered social policy, and the anthropology of the state, with a sustained focus on highland Ecuador. Her work explores how railways, public health, racial ideologies, and everyday state practices reorganize social relations and make state power appear real in daily life. Her research mission is to uncover how state formation operates through ordinary institutions and unequal social worlds.
