Professor Ewa Cairns conducts research in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Western University. Her work focuses on rheumatology, autoimmunity, and molecular immunology, particularly the role of citrullinated proteins in the development of rheumatoid arthritis. She investigates the immunological triggers that lead to the loss of self-tolerance in genetically susceptible individuals. Holding a Doctor of Philosophy from Western University, she is a core member of the Bone and Joint Institute. She supervises graduate students exploring the molecular basis of inflammatory diseases and is currently available for doctoral mentorship and research consultation for prospective students.
