BIO

Dr. Hassan Peerhossaini is distinguished professor emeritus of fluid mechanics and heat transfer at the university of Paris (Université Paris Cité) with principal appointment in the School of Physics. He joined the University of Western Ontario (Canada) in January 2018 as the Western Research Chair in Urban Resilience and Sustainability. His research focuses on the dynamics of active fluids (active matter-suspensions of algae and bacteria), bio-resourced energy, fluid mechanics, physics of turbulence, chaotic advection, convective heat transfer, heat transfer intensification, multifunctional chemical reactors and in interdisciplinary approach to energy systems and its social and economic impacts, urban physics, sustainability, and urban resilience. He has authored more than 500 publications including refereed archival papers, book chapters, full-length proceeding papers and technical reports. He received in 2013 the ASME Lewis F. Moody award for his work on mixing. Hassan Peerhossaini has supervised more than 50 PhD degrees and many Maters degrees and Engineering Diploma. He has been member, examiner, or president of more than 200 PhD. defense committees.
Dr. Peerhossaini is the founder and director of the Mechanics of Active Fluids and Bacterial Physics Laboratory of the University of Western Ontario (2019). He has also co-founded in 2012 and chaired the Paris Interdisciplinary Energy Research Institute (PIERI) of the French National Center for Scientific research.
Dr. Peerhossaini has held several key positions in research and higher education at the French national level. He has been Deputy Director of CNRS Interdisciplinary Energy Program (2006-2010), and Scientific Officer in the HCERES - the French High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (2010-2017). Dr. Peerhossaini is Member of the High Committee of Mechanics of France and several scientific societies. He was also director of Energy Physics at the Astroparticle & Cosmology Laboratory of the Université de Paris Cité.
