Dr Patwardhan completed his residency training in Neurology at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru, India, followed by a two-year fellowship in Cognitive and Movement Disorders at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University of Toronto, under the mentorship of Dr. Sandra Black and Dr. Mario Masellis. He then completed a fellowship in Dementia and Neurodegeneration at the University of Western Ontario.

His clinical practice focuses on neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).

His research interests span cognitive neurology and movement disorders, with a particular focus on clinical trials in Alzheimer’s disease, integrating neuropsychological assessments with neuroimaging to explore brain–behavior relationships, and studying imaging and fluid biomarkers in dementia. His teaching focuses on developing innovative educational approaches for resident trainees and advancing fellowship training in neurogeriatrics. He is an investigator in the Cognitive Clinical Trials group at Parkwood Hospital.

He joined the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, as an Assistant Professor and holds a cross-appointment in the Division of Clinical Neurological Sciences.
