Katie Kowalski is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Scholar in the School of Physical Therapy. As an educator, researcher and clinician, her overarching goal is to enhance musculoskeletal patient care and outcomes. Musculoskeletal disorders are the largest contributor to the global need for effective rehabilitation, and spinal pain is the leading condition. Sound clinical reasoning underpins effective and safe musculoskeletal rehabilitation, and patient outcomes are improved when clinical reasoning is advanced. Katie’s program of research is focused to optimizing the development of musculoskeletal clinical reasoning along the novice expert continuum, using mixed methods approaches with cross-sectional and longitudinal observational study designs. Katie also leads research exploring authentic and sustainable partner engagement in research and education, to enable research that is relevant and impactful, and physiotherapy education that prepares students to meet the needs of and drive change within real-world clinical practice.
