Dr. Zhang received his Bachelor of Medicine from Qingdao University Medical College in China and subsequently moved to Canada, where he completed a PhD in Developmental Neuroscience at the University of Manitoba. He then completed residency training in Anatomical Pathology at Western University, followed by a clinical fellowship in Neuropathology.

Dr. Zhang has broad interests in basic neuroscience and neuropathologic diseases. His current research focuses on three main areas: neuropathological findings in epilepsy, brain metastases from systemic malignancies, and neurodegenerative diseases.
