Dr. Yoo is an alumnus of the University of Toronto, where he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine with an MD degree in 1991 and completed residency in 1996. After completing his fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology & Reconstructive Surgery in Toronto, Dr. Yoo joined Western University in 1997.
Prior to his role as the Dean of the School, Dr. Yoo served as Chair/Chief from 2006 to 2020 of two Schulich Medicine & Dentistry clinical departments: Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Paediatrics.
As an academic physician in the Departments of Otolaryngology and Oncology since 1997, Dr. Yoo has been involved in all aspects of medical education. He has actively contributed to clinically-oriented research and served in administrative positions across various health sectors. In 2006, Dr. Yoo established the Head and Neck Surgical Fellowship at the school and has trained surgeons from across Canada and the world.
Dr. Yoo has also served as the President of the Canadian Association of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and as an Executive Council member of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Yoo is currently the Co-Chair of the Committee of Ontario Faculties of Medicine.
Dr. Yoo’s scholarly and clinical interests include head and neck cancer, thyroid and parathyroid surgery and management of the paralyzed face. He has developed and popularized reconstructive surgical techniques that have improved the quality of life of patients with head and neck defects and facial disfigurements.
