Dr. Robert Bartha was appointed Vice Dean, Research & Innovation at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry effective September 6, 2022. He oversees research strategy and vision for the School, fosters collaboration across Western and its health partners. He is also Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics.
Dr. Bartha earned his PhD in Medical Biophysics from Western in 1998 and joined Schulich and Robarts Research Institute in 2002. He has held numerous leadership roles including Acting Chair of Medical Biophysics, Director of the Imaging Research Group, and Acting Director of Strategy and Scientific Integration at Robarts Research Institute.
His research focuses on developing high-field MRI and spectroscopy methods for early disease diagnosis and treatment monitoring, particularly in neurodegeneration, aging, and cancer. He has published over 170 papers and has led the imaging platforms and teams in major initiatives like the Ontario Neurodegenerative Disease Research Initiative and the Canadian Consortium for Neurodegeneration and Aging.
Dr. Bartha has served extensively in national research review roles and was previously on the board of the Alzheimer Society of London and Middlesex. His awards include the Premier’s Research Excellence Award and the Dean’s Award of Excellence for his work with the Biomedical Imaging Research Centre.
