Adjunct Research Professor Julianne M. Burgess is a researcher in the Faculty of Education at Western University, specializing in multiliteracies and arts-based research. Her scholarship explores newcomer belonging and translanguaging through poetic and artistic inquiry. By utilizing keywords like arts-based multiliteracies, translanguaging, and newcomer belonging, she investigates how creative methods foster self-expression in adult English language classrooms. Dr. Burgess’ mission involves creating inclusive third spaces for communication that empower marginalized learners. A recipient of a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship, she collaborates on international projects regarding youth identity and supervises students in educational studies. She holds a Doctor of Education from Brock University.
