Dr. Gino Canlas is an Assistant Professor of Greek Archaeology in the Department of Classical Studies at Western.

Dr. Canlas earned a PhD in Classical Archaeology from the University of Alberta, worked as a research fellow in Athens at the Canadian Institute in Greece and as a postdoc for the Database of Religious History at University of British Columbia. Canlas then came to Western in 2005 and served for many years as Undergraduate Chair in the Department of Classical Studies.

Dr. Canlas has been a field archaeologist in Greece since 2009, predominantly work in the region of Thessaly, and has been studying Ancient and Modern Greek since the age of 16. Canlas researches the archaeology of ancient Greek religion, specializing in the archaeology of Greek sanctuaries from the Archaic to the Hellenistic periods.
