Associate Professor Ruud A. W. Veldhuizen, Department of Medicine with cross-appointment in Physiology and Pharmacology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, leads research on surfactant, pulmonary drug delivery, acute lung injury, pulmonary inflammation, and surface tension. His lab studies exogenous surfactant as a vehicle for pulmonary therapeutics, investigates mechanisms of lung injury, and examines the biophysical basis by which pulmonary surfactant stabilizes the lung. His mission is to advance respiratory science toward better therapies for acute and inflammatory lung disease. He is also a scientist at London Health Sciences Centre Research Institute (LHSCRI) and a member of the Program of Experimental Medicine.
