BIO

Assistant Professor Patricia Grace Markert, Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Social Science, Western University, is a historical archaeologist whose research focuses on Historical Archaeology, Oral History, Placemaking, Migration and Settler Colonialism in North America, and Community-Based Archaeology. Markert studies how migrant identity and memory are expressed through landscapes, architecture, heritage practices, and narrative across generations, with current fieldwork centered on south Texas communities shaped by Alsatian, German, and Mexican migration. Markert’s research mission is to understand how place and heritage are collaboratively made in the wake of migration and settler colonialism. Markert also advances archaeological ethics, equity, and accessibility in research and teaching.
