BIO
Assistant Professor Oana Birceanu, Departments of Physiology and Pharmacology and Biology, Western University, leads research at the intersection of comparative physiology, mitochondrial function, oxidative phosphorylation, metabolic stress, and life sciences education. She is a scientist with training in integrative and animal biology and active engagement in research and teaching initiatives across the department. Her research mission is to understand how organisms respond to physiological and metabolic stress while building strong quantitative and experimental training environments. She also contributes to undergraduate and graduate teaching activities in Physiology and Pharmacology at Western University. Dr. Birceanu is the co-creator and co-host of the podcast "Echoes from the margins: Voices reshaping higher education", a podcast developed by, and for, educators and learners looking to incorporate principles of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Decolonization, and Accessibility (EDIDA) into their classroom, lab, and professional spaces.
