Dr Tuoyo Awani is a Geriatric Psychiatrist, Clinician Teacher and has research and quality improvement interests. He completed his residency training in Psychiatry in the Republic of Ireland, following which he had his Higher Specialist training (Fellowship) in Geriatric Psychiatry in Sheffield, United Kingdom. He worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist/Geriatric Psychiatrist in England, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland before moving to Canada to join the Department.

He espouses the principles of compassion and kindness as the fulcrum of his clinical care and interactions, and his clinical and quality improvement interest are in the assessment and management of Neuropsychiatric manifestations of the Major Neurocognitive Disorders, as well as mood and psychotic disorders in the elderly. He is a keen advocate for collaborative and integrative delivery of care that involves all relevant key stakeholders with the purpose of improving program and service delivery.

His clinical teaching interests are in the enhancement of the clinical learning environment and its positive benefit on the learners, and he is passionate about clinical teaching and medical education.

His personal interests include soccer (playing and watching), outdoor walks and listening to music.
