Michael Andrew Arntfield, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of English and Writing Studies at Western University and a Fulbright scholar. Arntfield is also the founder of Western’s Cold Case Society, a collective of students that use emerging investigative practices to analyze evidence from unsolved homicide cases. From 1999 to 2014, Arntfield was a police officer and detective in the London, Ontario, Police Service. He earned his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice/Police Science from Western University. He studies and teaches literary criminology, forensic writing, forensic linguistics, true crime as social history, vernacular cultures of the criminal justice system, narrative psychology, investigative journalism, Gothic fiction and medical humanities.

Arntfield's public-facing work includes consulting on workplace violence harassment and threat assessment, media productions, and providing investigative training, interviewing strategies, and statement analysis. He is also known as a true crime broadcaster and podcaster, and author of over a dozen books and counting on true crime, criminology, and criminal investigation, ranging from textbooks and rigorous academic monographs to popular trade press titles for the typical non-fiction reader and true crime fan.
