Assistant Professor Nigel Blamey, Department of Earth Sciences, Western University, is a geochemist whose research focuses on fluid inclusion, geochemistry, geothermal systems, hydrothermal ore deposits, and ancient oxygen. His work uses fluid inclusion and geochemical methods to investigate the genesis of mineral systems, including Mississippi Valley-type and gold deposits, while also probing ancient atmospheric and environmental conditions. His research mission is to reconstruct the physical and chemical histories recorded in rocks and fluids so that Earth processes and resource formation become clearer. He teaches mineral systems, crystallography, and optics, and accepts graduate students in mineral deposits and event stratigraphy.
