BIO

Dr. Daniel Milej is a Scientist at the Lawson Health Research Institute and Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics at Western University. He received his M.Sc. in Optoelectronics from the Military University of Technology, Warsaw, and his Ph.D. from the Nalecz Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering, Polish Academy of Sciences. Following his Ph.D., he joined Western University as a postdoctoral fellow, during which he was awarded a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Fellowship.

Dr. Milej’s research focuses on developing low-cost, portable optical technologies, including time-domain optical brain imaging, functional near-infrared spectroscopy, and diffuse correlation spectroscopy, for rapid bedside assessment of brain function and health. He has extensive experience in designing and constructing optical systems, modeling light propagation through tissue, and applying advanced optical methods in human studies. His work aims to translate innovative optical imaging tools from the laboratory to clinical settings, improving patient care while mentoring the next generation of biomedical researchers.
