Associate Professor Martin Duennwald, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology with appointments in Biochemistry and Biology, Western University, leads research on protein misfolding, cellular quality control, aging, neurodegenerative diseases, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. His lab studies how cells detect, respond to, and cope with misfolded proteins using yeast models, mammalian cells, biochemistry, and pathology, with a focus on Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. His mission is to uncover mechanisms of proteotoxic stress that drive age-related disease. He also supervises graduate trainees in a highly interdisciplinary research environment.
