Anne Schuurman is an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Writing Studies at Western University. She earned her PhD from the University of Alberta in 2009, and her research primarily focuses on late medieval literature, particularly the works of Chaucer and Langland. Her scholarly interests include the religious culture of fourteenth-century England and the exploration of penitential emotions such as shame and guilt in Chaucer’s narrative poetry. She has contributed articles to notable publications including the Chaucer Review and PMLA, and is currently working on a book exploring the concept of debt in late medieval England. Additionally, she supervises graduate students with interests in Middle English literature, affect theory, emotion history, medieval mysticism, and medieval economic thought.

Professor Schuurman's teaching and research work was recognized with a Faculty Scholars Award for 2026–2028.
