BIO

Frank Henning, Ph.D., is Director, Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Composites Research at Western. This unique research facility in North America enables companies along the supply chain to explore materials, methods and processes and to develop innovative and competitive products for different industries, mainly automotive. Dr. Henning was key driver for generating this vision and transforming it to a $32M facility for Western and Fraunhofer, managing the center up to today. 

Henning is also Deputy Director, Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) and Director, Department of Polymer Engineering, Karlsruher Institute for Technology (KIT). Dr. Henning is also Associate Professor of Research in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Western University. 

Prof. Henning has about 20 years of experience in applied research with three internationally recognized awards in the manufacturing of composite innovations. In 2013 he was appointed SPE Fellow of the Society. He coordinates the Fraunhofer FUTURE “hybrid materials” for the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. Prof. Henning is President of SAMPE Deutschland e.V. and European Liaison of the SPE Composite Division.
