Associate Professor Lakshman Gunaratnam, Departments of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology, and Physiology and Pharmacology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, leads translational research on acute kidney injury, kidney transplantation, ischemia-reperfusion injury, inflammation, and immunology. His work examines cell death, phagocytosis, and signalling pathways that shape delayed graft function and transplant outcomes, with the goal of moving mechanistic discovery into better kidney care. His research mission is to reduce transplant-related injury and improve long-term graft survival. He is also a clinician-scientist in Nephrology and holds the Dr. Robert Zhong Chair in Translational Transplant Research.
