Domenico Santoro earned his BSc/MSc in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome and his PhD from Politecnico di Bari, where he conducted pioneering research on advanced disinfection for wastewater reuse. His doctoral work on CFD modelling of peroxyacetic acid (PAA) disinfection contributed to the broader adoption of PAA as an environmentally friendly alternative for municipal water and wastewater treatment.

He currently holds a dual appointment as Research Director at USP Technologies (London, Canada) and Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Western University. His work focuses on the development, validation, and scale-up of innovative water and wastewater treatment technologies, with particular emphasis on disinfection, advanced oxidation processes, and water reuse. He has further expanded his research into resource recovery and integrated wastewater resource management, bridging fundamental science with industrial implementation. He is actively engaged in leading international research and innovation programs, collaborating with academic, utility, and industrial partners across Canada, Europe, China, Australia, and the United States.
