Alice grew up in Winnipeg, did her undergraduate at the University of British Columbia, a PhD at the University of Arizona with Judie Bronstein and Courtney Conway, and post-docs at Western with Chris Guglielmo and at UBC with Kathy Martin. She was a faculty member in the Division of Biology at Kansas State University for 13 years, and in the summer 2025, she joined the faculty of the University of Western Ontario in Biology and joining the Centre for Animals on the Move.
