BIO

Professor Susanne Schmid serves as the Vice Dean, Basic Medical Sciences in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University. Her research integrates sensory filtering, neurodevelopment, and auditory processing to understand the biological basis of autism and sensory sensitivities. She focuses on the neural circuits underlying the startle response and how they are altered in neurodevelopmental disorders. Having earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Tübingen, she is a member of the Western Institute for Neuroscience. She supervises graduate students in the Neuroscience Graduate program and the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology and is currently available for doctoral mentorship.
