Associate Professor Janelle S. Blankenship, Department of English and Writing Studies, Department of English and Writing Studies, teaches in Film Studies, Comparative Literature, and the Centre for the Study of Theory and Criticism at Western University. Blankenship previously served as Assistant Professor and Faculty Fellow in German at New York University, teaching German film and literature and holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Duke University. A Fulbright Scholar, she brings strong international distinction to research in film, media history, and visual culture at Western University. Dr. Blankenship researches 19th-century optical technologies, early and silent-era cinema, German film history, European avant-garde, and popular science film. Her publications include numerous essays on early German cinema, magic lantern culture, and literary modernism and a special issue of the journal Polygraph on Media and Spatiality in Deleuze and Guattari.
