I am a theoretical biologist who uses mathematics and computer simulation to understand the evolution of organisms. I am particularly interested in the evolution of organismal traits that can be considered "social" because their expression affects different individuals simultaneously. Examples of "social" traits include altruism, cooperation, and parental care.

I hold a faculty position in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Western Ontario (London, Ontario, Canada). There, I teach a variety of classes ranging from introductory calculus to more advanced courses in differential equations and mathematical modelling. I especially enjoy using my teaching to help biology students see the importance of mathematics for their discipline.

I have served both the University of Western Ontario and the broader academic community in many different capacities. I served as an Associate Department Chair for two years, Department Chair for four years, and a member of the University Senate for one year. I am currently a campus Equity Representative and an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Sciences. Outside my home institution, I have been a two-term Reviewing Editor for the Journal of Evolutionary Biology and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Theoretical Biology. I currently serve on the Scientific Advisory Panel for the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences and am an Associate Editor for The American Naturalist.
