Jean Leclerc is a Professor in the Department of French Studies at Western University. Leclerc earned his Ph.D. from Université du Québec à Montréal and Paris-Sorbonne. He researches seventeenth-century French literature, comic genres, the aesthetics and poetics of burlesque, rhetoric, and the history of emotions and sociability. His research mission is to explain how literary form, humour, and social discourse shape French classical culture and the circulation of ideas about decorum and civility.
