Associate Professor David W Purcell in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the National Centre for Audiology at Western University, Faculty of Health Sciences, researches objective measures, brain processes speech sounds, envelope following response, hearing aids, and auditory function. His work develops physiological and behavioural methods to measure how the brain encodes speech, with a focus on validating newly fit hearing aids in very young listeners. His research mission is to improve hearing technology assessment through neuroscience-informed measurement. He supervises graduate students in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and Neuroscience and leads the Speech Auditory Feedback and Evoked Responses Laboratory.
