Dr. Gildo Santos is a tenured Professor and former Associate Dean, Undergraduate Dental Education at Western University Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry in Canada. Dr. Santos earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1986 and his Master of Science in Dental Clinics in 1999 from the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil. He earned his Ph.D. in Oral Rehabilitation in 2003 from the University of Sao Paulo with research credits from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry. Dr. Santos is an Alumni of the ADEA Leadership Institute and Western Leader Academy.
In addition to his role as a Professor, Dr. Santos has served in many administrative capacities in Schulich Dentistry including Assistant Director, Clinical Affairs; Chair of Continuing Dental Education; and Chair, Division of Restorative Dentistry. He currently also serves as a Member of the Senate at UWO, Member of the Council at Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO), Member of the Council of Faculties at American Dental Education Association (ADEA).
He is a member of many Schulich Dentistry committees and holds membership with numerous associations including the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), Canadian Association for Dental Research (CSDR), Canadian Dental Association (CDA), Ontario Dental Association (ODA), and the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO).
Dr. Santos is coordinator and course director of a number of courses in Restorative Dentistry along with other administrative roles and scholarly activities. He was a recipient of the W.W. Wood Award for Excellence in Dental Education by the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry (ACFD).
He has had more than 70 peer-reviewed articles published in international journals and has trained and mentored graduate and undergraduate students in the area of biomaterials research throughout his career; he is also a consultant to the dental industry.
