My research focuses on elucidating the structure–function relationships of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) associated with human diseases, particularly neurodegenerative disorders. Investigating the structural and functional properties of this unique class of proteins represents one of the most challenging frontiers in structural biology. Because a substantial number of proteins implicated in neurodegenerative diseases are intrinsically disordered developing a comprehensive understanding of how these proteins function—and how they become dysfunctional—is critical for enabling rational drug design and, ultimately, the development of effective therapies.
