Associate Professor Xiufen Zheng, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine with appointments in Microbiology and Immunology and Surgery, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, leads research on organ transplantation, ischemia reperfusion injury, population genetics, heart graft protection, and translational pathology. Her work examines the mechanisms of ischemia reperfusion injury in transplantation and explores genetic diversity and association studies with clinical relevance. Her research mission is to reduce graft injury and improve transplant outcomes through mechanism-based discovery. A recent Western University highlight is grant support for work on protecting heart grafts from ischemia injury.
